EML / EMLT inline high-shear mixer
An inline high-shear mixer installed in the pipeline: it emulsifies and, at the same time, pumps the product. It leaves a homogeneous mixture, free of lumps and without oxidation. The EMLT version, with a made-to-measure multi-tooth head, goes further with viscous and hard-to-mix products. Seven sizes, from 1.5 to 30 kW.

What is the EML/EMLT inline high-shear mixer for?
The EML is an inline high-shear mixer: it is fitted into the pipeline and, thanks to the design of its heads and delivery turbines, it emulsifies and pumps the product in a single pass. It leaves the product homogeneous and lump-free and prevents oxidation. It is also used to transfer and handle products that have already been homogenised, because it preserves their stability and properties. The head is chosen according to the product: screened, slotted or perforated.
The EMLT has a multi-tooth head designed to measure for each application, because each product has a major influence on performance. It achieves higher degrees of homogenisation in products with high viscosity, very different densities or that are hard to mix, and prevents phase separation.
This is the right equipment if…
- You want to emulsify continuously, outside the tank, and pump the product at the same time.
- You are mixing powdered or crystalline solids with liquids, or gases with liquids.
- The product is viscous or has phases that tend to separate, and a multi-tooth head (EMLT) suits you.
- You need power: up to 30 kW, with DIN 11851 connections as standard.
Choose other equipment if…
- You prefer to emulsify inside the tank: the EM vertical emulsifier is the better choice or, for products of up to 20,000 cP, the EMV/EMVT.
- You need particles smaller than 10 microns: the MICRO microniser is the better choice.
- Your main operation is incorporating powder into a recirculating liquid: the EMTB solid-liquid mixer is the better choice.
- You only need to transfer the product, without emulsifying: a centrifugal pump is the better choice.
Applications by process
Processes in which the EML and the EMLT are used:
Solids in liquids
Dissolving, dispersing or mixing powdered or crystalline solids in the base liquid.
Emulsions
Emulsifying, diluting or mixing liquids, without lumps and without phase separation (EMLT).
Milling
Reducing particle size as the product passes through the head.
Gases and liquids
Mixing gases with liquids directly in the line.
Features and benefits
Emulsifies and pumps
The delivery turbines move the product along the line while the head emulsifies it.
No lumps or oxidation
It leaves a completely homogeneous, lump-free product and prevents oxidation.
Made-to-measure head
Screened, slotted or perforated on the EML; multi-tooth and designed for each product on the EMLT.
Adjustable outlet
The outlet can be oriented to suit the installation.
Cartridge seal
Single or double cartridge mechanical seal, with an optional thermosiphon to cool it.
Hygiene and protection
A high level of hygiene and external protection against ambient oxidation.
Models in the series
Seven sizes, from 1.5 to 30 kW. The first number in the code is the motor power in kW. The multi-tooth head (EMLT) is listed as an option for the series.
| Model | Motor | Connections (D / E) |
|---|---|---|
| EML 1.5-3000 | 1.5 kW | DN50 / DN40 |
| EML 4-3000 | 4 kW | DN65 / DN50 |
| EML 7.5-3000 | 7.5 kW | DN80 / DN65 |
| EML 11-3000 | 11 kW | DN80 / DN65 |
| EML 15-3000 | 15 kW | DN80 / DN65 |
| EML 22-3000 | 22 kW | DN100 / DN80 |
| EML 30-3000 | 30 kW | DN100 / DN80 |
Data from the AGITMIM catalogue. D and E are the two ports of the unit as shown on the dimension drawing; DIN 11851 connections as standard. The full dimensions are in the PDF data sheet.

Frequently asked questions about the EML / EMLT inline high-shear mixer
What is the difference between the EML and the EMLT?
The head. The EML has a screened, slotted or perforated head depending on the product; the EMLT, a multi-tooth head designed to measure. The EMLT achieves greater homogenisation in products with high viscosity, widely differing densities or that are hard to mix, and prevents phase separation.
Does the inline high-shear mixer also pump?
Yes. Its delivery turbines move the product while emulsifying it, and the outlet is adjustable. As an option, it can be fed by a positive displacement pump.
When should you choose an inline high-shear mixer rather than a tank emulsifier?
What connections and gaskets can it have?
DIN 11851 as standard and, on request, CLAMP, SMS, DIN 2576 or DIN 11856, among others. The gaskets can be EPDM, Viton or encapsulated PTFE.
Which mechanical seal does it have?
Single or double cartridge seal, depending on the product and the operating conditions. A thermosiphon can be added to cool the seal.
Can it run dry?
It is not advisable. As in a pump, the mechanical seal needs the liquid itself to cool it; if the line can run out of product, install a protection device that stops the unit.
