What is the EMF bottom-entry mixer for?
The EMF is InoxMIM's bottom-entry emulsifier: it is mounted in the lower part of the tank and covers dispersion, emulsification, homogenisation and milling processes. Thanks to its position, it rapidly dissolves the heaviest particles, which tend to build up at the bottom.
The turbine draws the fluid towards the centre of the head and centrifugal force carries it towards the outside of the rotor. In the gap between turbine and stator the product is subjected to high pressure and milled; as it leaves through the openings in the head, the high speed generates a very high shear stress that disperses, emulsifies and homogenises the mixture, and the cycle repeats continuously. With low-viscosity products it can work on its own; with very viscous products it is combined with an anchor-type impeller agitator.
This is the right equipment if…
- You want to emulsify from the bottom and thoroughly dissolve heavy particles.
- You need to keep the top of the tank free or combine the emulsifier with an anchor agitator.
- You are looking for stable emulsions with a slotted, screened or perforated head depending on the product.
- You work in food, pharmaceuticals or cosmetics with a food or sanitary finish.
Choose other equipment if…
- You prefer to mount the emulsifier on top of the tank: the EM vertical emulsifier is the better choice or, for products of up to 20,000 cP and working under vacuum or overpressure, the EMV/EMVT.
- You want to emulsify continuously and pump the product at the same time: the EML/EMLT inline high-shear mixer is the better choice.
- You need particles smaller than 10 microns: the MICRO microniser is the better choice.
- You only need to mix with low shear: the TURBINE vertical mixer is enough.
Applications by industry
Where the EMF is typically used:
Food industry
Dispersion, emulsification and homogenisation in process tanks, with a food finish.
Cosmetics
Stable emulsions and homogeneous mixtures; with an anchor agitator for very viscous products.
Pharmaceuticals
Milling and dispersion with a sanitary finish and double mechanical seal.
Dissolving solids
Rapid dissolution of the heaviest particles that build up at the bottom of the tank.
Features and benefits
Bottom mounting
It is installed in the lower part of the tank with a DIN 2576 PN10 flange.
High shear stress
Milling between turbine and stator and dispersion as the product passes through the openings in the head, in a continuous cycle.
Interchangeable heads
Slotted, screened or perforated, to obtain the right particle size for each product.
Double mechanical seal
Standard; with an optional cooling unit for the sealing system.
On its own or with an agitator
It works on its own with low-viscosity products or together with an anchor agitator with very viscous products.
Simple maintenance
Easy assembly and disassembly, and a high level of hygiene.

Frequently asked questions about the EMF bottom-entry mixer
What is the advantage of a bottom-entry emulsifier over a vertical one?
Can it work on its own or does it need an agitator?
It depends on the viscosity. With low-viscosity products it works on its own; with very viscous products it is used together with an agitator fitted with an anchor-type impeller.
Which head should I choose?
The one that gives the particle size your product needs: slotted, screened or perforated. They are interchangeable, and the catalogue also includes a multi-turbine configuration. Tell us about your process and we will recommend the right combination.
What seal does it have?
A double mechanical seal as standard. As options, a single mechanical seal with safety gland packing and a cooling unit for the sealing system.
What sizes are available?
Seven, from 0.75 to 18.5 kW, with a DIN 2576 PN10 flange from DN80 to DN250 and weights from 21 to 149 kg. For larger models, please contact us.
What maintenance does it need?
Very little, because it is easy to assemble and disassemble. As it sits at the bottom of the tank, the mechanical seal always works submerged: it should be checked periodically and the equipment should not be started with the tank empty.
