What is the SB/SBR/SBN portable agitator for?
The SB/SBR/SBN is InoxMIM's portable vertical agitator. It provides a high degree of agitation in small-volume tanks and, thanks to its clamp mounting, it is fixed to the edge of an open tank and moved to another in a short time, without bolted flanges.
The cast aluminium reinforcement tower extends the life of the motor, increases the strength of the equipment and allows a longer shaft. The half shaft transmission makes it easy to change the shaft or propeller so the same drive head can be used in different tanks or applications. It is used in water treatment and in the chemical, food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
This is the right equipment if…
- You agitate small-volume open tanks and want to move the agitator from one to another.
- You need to disperse reagents or powders or keep a mix homogeneous.
- You are looking for lightweight equipment, with shaft and propeller in AISI 316 stainless steel.
- You need a direct-drive motor (SB), a geared motor (SBR) or a pneumatic drive (SBN).
Choose other equipment if…
- The agitator is fixed on an HDPE tank with a motor flange: the MD/MDN is the better choice.
- The tank is medium-sized (2,000 to 15,000 litres) or the product is very viscous: the VMD/VMR is the better choice.
- The agitator has to be fixed with a DN50 flange and have a food or sanitary finish: the VAI/VSI/VDI/VSIN is the better choice.
- You work in a winery and want to agitate through the tank valve: the LV wine agitator is the better choice.
Applications by industry
Where the SB/SBR/SBN agitator is usually used:
Water treatment
Open tanks for preparing coagulants, flocculants or lime slurry in wastewater treatment plants.
Chemical industry
Dispersion of powders in liquid bases, detergents, dyes and dilution of acids.
Cosmetics and pharmaceuticals
Low-density gels and keeping mixes homogeneous in small batches.
Food industry
Keeping mixes homogeneous in buffer tanks: brines, simple syrups and liquid additives or preservatives.
Features and benefits
Clamp mounting
Fixed to the edge of the tank without building work or flanges: the same unit serves several tanks.
Reinforcement tower
Cast aluminium: extends the life of the motor and allows a longer shaft.
Portable and lightweight
Low weight and easy fitting and removal.
Interchangeable half shaft
The shaft and propeller are changed to suit the tank or the application, with the same motor head.
MARINA propeller
Axial flow to disperse reagents and prevent particles from settling.
Sealing with lip seal
Protects the drive during operation.
Versions in the series
The three versions share the shaft, propeller, support tower and mounting. Only the drive changes.
| Version | Drive | Suitable for |
|---|---|---|
| SB | Direct-drive motor | Low-viscosity mixes at high speed |
| SBR | Geared motor | Denser products or delicate suspensions, with fewer revolutions and more torque |
| SBN | Pneumatic motor | Plants with compressed air or where an electric motor is not advisable |
Mounting: clamp with a 40 mm opening (dimension M) or base with DN50 flange (A 165 mm, B 128 mm, 4 bolt holes of 13 mm at 90°), according to the AGITMIM catalogue.

Frequently asked questions about the SB/SBR/SBN portable agitator
What is the difference between the SB, SBR and SBN?
The drive. The SB has a direct-drive motor, for low-viscosity mixes at high speed; the SBR, a geared motor, for denser products or delicate suspensions; and the SBN, a pneumatic motor, to work with compressed air only.
How is it fixed to the tank?
With an adjustable clamp that is tightened onto the edge of the tank, with a 40 mm opening. It can also be mounted on a base with a DN50 flange.
What material is the SBR made of? Is it stainless steel?
The shaft and propeller, which are the parts in contact with the product, are made of AISI 316 stainless steel in all three versions. The reinforcement tower is made of cast aluminium.
Can I use the same agitator in different tanks?
Yes. It is portable and can be moved from one tank to another. In addition, the half shaft allows the shaft or propeller to be changed to adapt the same drive head to another tank or application.
What is the reinforcement tower for?
It takes the loads on the shaft between the motor and the product. This extends the life of the motor, makes the equipment stronger and allows a longer shaft to be fitted.
What should I do if the reagent attacks stainless steel?
Order the shaft and propeller coated in PVC, PE or resins. This is the usual option with highly corrosive water treatment reagents.
