First steps: assembly and disassembly of the centrifugal pump

As manufacturers of industrial machinery, we will take the FL30 model as an example to explain how to repair a centrifugal pump. We present some of the aspects to be taken into account when dismantling the pump:

  • You must first disconnect the pump from electrical power to prevent the motor from starting during disassembly, or starting the wash cycle.
  • If liquids have been pumped at high temperatures, the equipment should be allowed to cool to room temperature.
  • The fluid suction and discharge valves must be closed, then the pump and the pumped fluid piping must be emptied, taking appropriate precautions in accordance with the safety sheet for the product being pumped.
  • It is also important to remove any fluid residues that may remain outside the pump.

Repairing a centrifugal pump: other considerations

  • Disassembly and assembly work must be carried out by qualified personnel, as an incorrect procedure can damage the pump.
  • To facilitate assembly, the seals and sealing rings must be properly lubricated beforehand.
  • Special attention must also be paid to the friction faces of the seal, as well as the O-rings.
  • Apply mounting lubricant to the threads to prevent seizing.

We have a wide range of centrifugal pumps that cover the needs of a long list of industrial applications.

This article would be incomplete if we omitted to mention that we have a department specialising in the design, manufacture and development of all types of industrial pumps, called FLUIDMIM. The department selects for each transfer or industrial process the type of centrifugal pump that guarantees both performance and cost optimisation for each application. We offer a wide range of different pump models, such as centrifugal, helical, liquid ring, progressive cavity, gear, flexible impeller, lobular or peristaltic pumps.
